FYI: CAR BREAK-IN & THEFT on the 500 block of Scott Street, Sunday morning June 10.
Details: Two black males were seen using a makeshift slim-jim breaking into a white luxury sedan parked in front of 518 Scott Street at approximately 9:40am this morning, Sunday June 10. When the alarm sounded, they quickly took property from the driver's side and fled east across the street and down the alley between 515 & 517 Scott, toward Otterbein Street.
The rear window of the car had apparently been smashed minutes earlier with loose bricks from 516 Scott Street, probably to see if the alarm would sound.
Owner arrived approximately 5-8 minutes later to shut off alarm. Meanwhile, a group of black males (possibly including one of the suspects) returned to the scene walking up and down the other side of Scott assessing reaction & response. The owner, apparently a visitor to the 700 block of Carroll eventually removed car from the scene without calling police or indicating he would file a report. Instead, residents called 911 to report incident. Police cruiser #800 was later seen questioning two males loitering on church steps at 527 Scott.
Description of perpetrators: Two black males, probably late teens or early 20's, short hair, average height & build, dressed similarly. One wore a white tank, the other wore a gray tank, and both wore dark baggy shorts (one with a stripe) and sneakers.
Background: This break-in is likely related to a recent influx of teen & adult drug dealers working the 500 block of Scott (just south of Washington Blvd) loitering on various stoops day & night to attract business, then distributing drugs in the alley between 515 & 517 Scott. Residents of the 500 block have watched loitering & heavy drug activity all week and filed numerous 311 reports.

Thought I should let everyone know of another car break-in and attempted theft, which was of my own car this time. I was priding myself that, since I will be moving June 30, I have now been here a whole year and only had minor tampering with my car, no major crime, so felt very lucky.
Yesterday I went out to my car which was parked in the back lot of the Roundhouse Court units. No windows were smashed but someone had clearly gotten into the car and the glove box, strewn its contents all over the place, and pulled the ash tray and cup holder out of the dash board and tossed them on the floor. The windshield wipers had been fiddled with, and I was shocked to find that there were two "master" or "skeleton" type keys in my car, one in the ignition and another in the glove box. I tried these keys on the outside of the car and they easily unlock the doors and trunk. Someone had also gotten into the trunk, pulled the cover off the spare tire, and taken the tire iron, which was found laying on the ground in the front of the car.
I called 311 at around 8 p.m. and waited for them to arrive. I called back at 8:45 and they said they had been out but couldn't find me, so I gave them more detailed directions. At 9:15 I called back and told them I had to get on with my life and was going to drive 3 blocks away to my workplace on Penn/Pratt streets, and where they could find me there, giving them my cell phone # to call when they arrived. I went there and sat in an illegal parking space (there was nothing else open) for about a half hour and saw no cops, so went into my work place thinking I would pick up some work and take it home. I was inside for 5 minutes and when I came back out my car was ticketed, yet no one contacted me about my break-in claim. I went home and called 311 AGAIN and they said they couldn't get to me because there had been a suicide in the area and I would need to come in to file a claim.
Nice way to leave Baltimore!!!! Grrrrrr.......

Thanks for the sentiments - I do appreciate it. And yes, it does seem annoying that the police are available to enforce the law for a minor parking violation by me, yet they do not have time to address crime that is of a greater magnitude against me.
Again, grrrrrr......

I just wanted to add that I moved my car from the back lot to the Scott Street lot of Roundhouse Court, only to have my car tampered with AGAIN and this time damaging the car by prying around the window frame so that now the window itself is bent outward and anyone could get into the car.
Finally, I got the police to come out to take a report at least. I thought our lot was a little safer than that.

Please read the release below from the Southern District Police. This group was thought to have some connection to our recent crime wave: _____________________________________________________________
Pratt & Carey Streets drug dealing ended............... The following information is forwarded regarding the conclusion of an investigation into the heroin distribution organization known as "Smackdown" . The organization centered around the Pratt and Carey Sts intersection and extended into the Hollins Roundhouse and Union Square communities and quite possibly several others as well.
None of the addresses where search warrants were executed were in the Southern District, however all the persons arrested conducted most of their drug sales in the listed communities. It should be noted that this is a Federal Case and those arrested are subject to extremely lengthy sentences. Several of those arrested will potentially get life in federal prison. The Federal system has no probation or parole and has a conviction rate of somewhere near 98%. This is a rock solid case and will end the Matthews drug dealing.
The Southern District will continue to hit the area hard in an effort to prevent other drug organizations form attempting to operate in the area. Please contact me with any questions regarding this or any other matter. 410-404-9124 (cell) 410-396-2500 (office) michael.mcdonald@baltimorepolice.org
On 6/22/07 Sgt. Tom Smith's O.C.D. / D.E.A. / M.E.T. team executed 8 search and seizure warrants relative to the "Smack Down" heroin organization that operates in the Southern District in the area of Pratt and Carey St.
The following evidence was recovered: 2.8 Kilograms of Heroin - Street value in excess of $500,000.00 3 Handguns Approx. $145,000.00 (Still Counting)
The following locations were raided: 5501 Todd Ave. (NED) 3808 Bayville Rd (Baltimore County) 507 Rose Hill Terr. (N.D.) 3621 Elmley Av. (N.E.D.) 5411 Jamestown Ct. (S.W.D.) 6012 Amberwood Rd. (N.E.D.) 2034 Walbrook Ave. (W.D.) 4304 Seminole Ave. (S.W.D.)
The Following Individuals were arrested: Calvin Mathews SID#1676517 Jerome Gilbert SID#2123302 Jermaine Gilbert SID#1437715 Lennell Mathews SID#2250043 Michael Goodman SID#2248896 Donita Moore SID#1793142 Jaml Piles SID#3127619 Arthur Snowden SID# 96082 Keith Stevenson SID#2446374
The following persons have open Federal Indictment Warrants and have not yet been arrested: Lionel Mathews SID#2273084 Bryant Snowden SID#1938277
Copies of these warrants have been FAX'd to the S.D. C/O Lt. Nalewajko.
The pistols recovered were .45 and .9mm.
All persons were transported to S.D. / D.D.U. One individual was debriefed by 2100 Det. Hunter as well in relation to 07H119.
All are expected to be Federally detained, although the detention hearings have not yet occurred.
I would especially like to thank the following: Sgt. Smith and the D.E.A. / M.E.T. squad for making a great case!! AUSA Wallner and Weinstein for their tireless efforts ASA Siemek and Mason for there State side help Lt. McKnight and QRT for making two of our entries Balto. Co. SWAT / Narcotics for making a County entry S.D. Operations, namely officers Creed and Moody who provided vital intelligence. Deputy Major McDonald for his patience. I'm sure I missed a few.
Most interesting to me in this is that this Southern District organization lived in 4 different City Districts, and Baltimore County. Not one S.D. location was raided! This shows what a City (and County) wide organization this really is (was)!
Sgt. Smith is currently on a well deserved vacation.
Any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks to All!! Lt. Quick (443) 865-9589

Hi!
My fiance and I are new to the neighborhood and I just thought I would inform people of some vandalism that we encountered. we have a back garden area with sliding glass doors that are protected by bars but above that is a window -- someone through a medium sized rock through this thick glass. We tried to figure out how they threw is so hard through the glass to go through it and soar up to the second level landing and hit the wall to make a dent...we can only assume someone jumped over the fence and into our area...anyway, just thought I would pass it along.
