Just had a delicious dinner the other night from The Himilayan House located on Fort Avenue, past the Southside shopping center. The food is Indian-themed. The best part of it was they deliver to our area. I have been a fan of Akbar in Mt. Vernon. This food was just as good, if not as greasy. Check it out!

How far past the shopping center are they? In Locust Point? Glad to know they deliver -- I'm about sick of pizza and bad Chinese.

You have answered my prayers!! We have been dying for more take-out/delivery options...especially Indian Themed! I can't wait to check it out. I've run by there several times, but never thought to go in to check it out. How are the prices? This is great news amidst all the negativity of our recent crime posts!

Carol, I would say that it is about 3-4 blocks past Southside (heading toward Ft. McHenry) on the left hand side of the street on the corner.
Don't let the fact they carry some odds & ends groceries scare you....they may even sell cigarettes. As for the prices, nothing is ever as cheap as Chinese food, but I think they are a few $'s lower than the places in Mt. Vernon and the place on Charles St. in Federal Hill. The delivery man was also very nice, he apologized for not at first being able to find Scott Street. I do not think he had ever been over in our neighborhood before. He said that next time there would be no problem; i.e. he was willing to come back again!

You're going to laugh, but we went out and tried it last night after reading your post. You're right, well worth it! We loved the chickan masala!
The prices were a little higher than I'd like for take out, but he threw in some free rice pudding and gave a 15% off coupon for the carry out, so that was nice. The portions were huge too so maybe next time we might just share a dinner.
Thanks so much for the great recommendation!

I'll have to check this place out.... I've been having withdrawals since Captains Palace closed. For those that venture on the east side, it was next to patterson park, where we used to live. That place looked like a dirty hole in the wall, but had great indian food, with huge portions and good prices. Don't know why they closed but I've been looking for a replacement! I'm sure shirien will be happy to put their gulab juman to the test!

Do they have masala dosa? It's my all-time favourite. I also like the item you usually find on the appetiser menu....it's simply called "cutlet". I have no clue what it's made of, but I could eat them 24/7 and never get tired of them.
I'm so happy there's an Indian place around that DELIVERS!!!!

we ordered from them last night and it was delicious. very nice delivery driver even when he got lost, good portion sizes and on par with indian food prices in the area. unfortunately they didn't give a menu with the order, nor is anything available online, so you have to know what you want before calling and hope they have it.

I was just in that area -- I should have stopped in and grabbed a menu.
I have to go back tomorrow evening -- if I remember, I'll get a menu and post the highlights.
