Did you know that Barre Circle conducts Community Cleanups each month from Spring to Fall?!
Did you know that years ago Barre Circle signed an MOU to take care of and maintain our wonderful open spaces and pocket parks?
You have probably heard this is why we are responsible for cutting the grass, but it also means it is up to us to clean the trash and debris, favor the flowers over the weeds, and keep the community looking nice. It not only makes Barre Circle look beautiful, it also helps detour crime (per the saying: "Flowers bloom with care, while trash breeds trash"). So it is important we keep our community spaces looking picture perfect!
So what are the details behind the Barre Circle Community Cleanup?
We meet the third Saturday of the month at the large park between MLK/Pratt/Otterbien/McHenry. Muffins and donuts are always on hand (bring your own coffee). We also have plenty of rakes, shovels and other tools. And the City provides a trash truck for the morning to haul the debris and unwanted items away(even large items!).
Each month we try to focus on either cleaning up a trouble spot, or maintaining an area we have already improved. This year we have trimmed trees, pulled weeds, planted new flower gardens and continued with the ongoing street sweeping. Being a "Community Cleanup" we focus on our public areas, not our own homes or front walks, so that these areas are properly maintained and looking their best. After the cleanup, which we strive to never make more than a few hours of effort, everyone is encouraged to then sweep, weed, etc around their own property to make the most of the morning.
Recently there have been suggestions of planting new flower gardens, maybe a community vegetable garden, and many other great ideas. But before we can take on additional activities, we need to have better participation in our current efforts. Many hands make for light work, and recently this could be improved. So come on out for the next Barre Circle Community Cleanup - August 18th!
Remember, our Community Cleanups are very important to our way of life in Barre Circle, and it bears repeating: they result in a more beautiful, safe and livable community.
