I know the guys that live at 318 Scott St. ( I believe it is 318, anyway) have also had run ins with the group of losers that hang out on the stoop across the street. One threatened him with a broken beer bottle while he was outside on his stoop talking to his girlfriend. I am usually on the computer at night in our office. It faces the back alley between the rows of houses on Scott and Ryan St. The kids come through once a night, at least, just peaking in each and every house. I think the American Bulldog keeps them away. So if you don't have mace and/or a giant bulldog or pitbull, its time to get on it.

Wow. This is getting ridiculous. You would think with all the students living over here and the spike in activity that we would have more police presence. Especially during the day when most of these things seem to occur. Maybe if the University of Maryland loses students because of the housing that is available they will step up instead of clashing with the city police. The officer that investigated my incident said most crimes happen between 8:00am and 4:00pm because they blend in with everyone already walking around. And most people have thier guard down for that fact. I would have never thought I would be mugged in broad daylight. If I see one suspicious person in this neighborhood especially in a construction outfit I am definitely calling the police. I think our Barre Circle circular those goes out needs to be more elaborate on these incidents. I know it isn't the best news, but my roomates don't want to hear anything from me on this message board or any website. They say they can't be any safer then they already are. They do read the circular though and I bet you a lot of people have seen this guy in the construction outfit. I feel very sorry for the woman who was robbed. I can't even walk on the street after what happened and I can't imagine being in your own house where you are supposed to feel safe. I'm glad she was not physically hurt.

I was attacked at my home on Ryan Street (new town homes of Camden Crossing) on Friday November 10, 2006 at 9:30am. The assailant is a black male in mid 20's, 6'2" and 160 lbs Heroine junkie in construction-worker attire. He first stole my bike in the garage and turned off the main electricity switch to the house. Then he returned and broke down the entrance from the garage and met me in the second floor. He threatened me with a weapon and took my wallet and completely emptied out my jewelry box with everything placed in a black bag that was in the bed room he took off on feet. I, fortunately, was not injured.
I called the police right away and the 911 dispatcher did not have our house on the city map. Several calls later, the police finally arrived 45-50 minutes later. The detectives and the crime lab people also had a hard time finding the place. There is no street sign to my house and the management does not feel that it was their responsibility to notify the city of this new construction and place proper signs in the street for the ambulance, police and fire departments to find us.
We moved to camden crossing off of Scott street in July of 2006 and we had taken all precautions to take care of ourselves and our property. Now, we are notifying all of our neighbors of this incident. Please pass on this information to everyone in this neighborhood. We don't want to be a victim to the city's drug problem and we have to stand together to ask for more measures to help keep us safe. God knows that we pay way too much tax in this area and at least they should be able to find us on the map!

I'm confused. First he rode away on your bike, and then he came back...after breaking down your door? Then he robbed you of your belongings, and left? And all of this happened in broad daylight???
So sorry this happened to you. Really. Thanks for giving us the information -- I don't know what the procedure is to get street signs for your neighborhood, but I'd definitely follow up on that. It's a shame that Metroventures isn't being more proactive.

After my son was attacked and then my wife verbally assaulted while walking through Barre Circle, I fired off letters to the City police, the southern district station, the mayor and the president of UMB. Between our taxes, our local spending and the huge amount of money we spend at UMB on tuition and misc, we deserve better protection. I intend to follow up and I'll report if I get any response.

I was actually going to ask the same thing, Carol! Thanks! I'd love to walk over with someone or a group since Ryan won't be able to attend.

I intend to follow up and I'll report if I get any response.I would also make a point of calling/emailing Keiffer Mitchell. I've had so-so luck with his office...sometimes they're very responsive, sometimes not. I think it depends on who you get. He's extremely nice, though. www.keiffermitchell.com/

I am posting an e-mail I sent to the Mayor and his response. Mayor Martin O'Malley (mayor@baltimorecity.gov) To: XXXXX Subject: RE: Crime in Washington Village/"Pigtown" XXXXX: I can strongly suggest that your neighborhood association contact Major Eric Jordan at the Southern District, so that he and his staff can address any and all concerns about crime in your community. He can provide information on a Citizens on Patrol group or a Crime Watch team wherein you and your neighbors could serve as extra eyes and ears in the community to assist BCPD. Major Jordan can be reached at 410-396-2505. He has, in the past, and will continue to meet with neighborhood groups. Martin O'Malley, Mayor -----Original Message----- From: XXXXX Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2006 9:16 PM To: Mayor Martin O'Malley Subject: Crime in Washington Village/"Pigtown" Mayor O'Malley, First, CONGRATULATIONS on being elected Governor!!! Secondly, as I have been very successful in corresponding to this address and getting the appropriate responses, I thought I'd try it again... Recently, it has come to my attention that there has been a significant rise in the number of reported incidents of crime along Scott St between Pratt St and Washington Blvd. This is possibly due to the increase in conscientious residents of Camden Crossing. I am attaching a link to acommunity website where Barre Circle and Camden Crossing residents havebeen reporting incidents of crime and their responses. barrecircle.proboards20.com/index.cgiboard=BCMAIN&action=display&thread=1162422296 Please take the time to read through the three pages of reporting and consider what options we have as a community, i.e. Police cameras, more diligent police patrols, law enforcement, school board involvement, etc. Clearly, it is in the best interest of the city, and certainly my fellow residents of Camden Crossing and Barre Circle, to have a safe neighborhood to live in and raise children. Especially as the city tries to continue to draw more residents. I know that having paid nearly $8500 in 2006 city taxes, specifically, I would hope that we residents have the support of the city to curb this increasing crime trend! There is a crime meeting at Slider's bar at 504 Washington Blvd this Thursday (11/16) at 7:30. Residents of Camden Crossing and Barre Circle will be there to discuss these issues. I would certainly hope that you or a representative from your office could attend. I personally will not be able to attend as I have work commitments in Iowa that I have to attend to. I'm very sorry for the last minute notice, but I just became aware of the meeting this evening. I do know that the residents and those holding the meeting would greatly appreciate your due diligence in supporting our local community in this important matter. Thanks very much for all you do and again, congratulations on theGovernorship! Most sincerely, XXXXX XXX Ryan Street Baltimore, MD 21230

Hi all
I want to encourage you to attend tonight's WPNPC public safety meeting tonight at 6pm at the bath house (904 Washington Blvd) and bring your concerns. Lt VanderMullen will be there, as well a a number of folks who have been working hard to address issues related to public safety in Pigtown/Barre Circle /Roundhouse Court. This meeting is held the 3rd thursday of every month. This meeting is always attended by the State's Attorney's Office, Southern District Police Operations, our Community Police Officer, and others in law enforcement. I have updated Lou Takacs (he runs the meeting) about what has been going on in Barre Circle, and he is a great resource.
I would be happy to advocate for all of you, but unfortunately, I cannot attend as I have broken my foot, had surgery and am now stuck in bed with my foot up until I get the ok from the doc. However, this would be a good meeting for some of you to attend to bring information to your meeting at Sliders tomorrow.

I am going to talk to Neil about one of us attending tomorrow night. If so, we'd love to walk with Carol and Lauren. I don't think we can both come and bring the baby, what with the meeting being in a bar and her bedtime being around the time of the meeting.
I can't go to the other meeting tonight (Wednesdays are church nights) but I hope someone from Barre Circle can make it.
