Announcements
Next COP Meeting: The next COP meeting is going to be August 6th (always the first Thursday) at 904 Washington Blvd. at 6:30 pm. We have some great new projects we are working on. This is also a good opportunity to meet your neighbors and do some productive networking. For more information about meetings please email citizensofpigtown@gmail.com.
Citizens on Patrol: Pigtown is in need of more residents to turn-out to Citizen On Patrol walks, which are held the fourth Wed. of each month. Low resident participation is causing concern and opening up the possibility of stopping the walks in Pigtown. The next walk is August 22nd at 7pm in front of the Bath House (904 Washington Blvd.). Also, come to learn about Camden Crossing/Barre Circle's walks. Please contact Jack Baker at jackbaker@sdpcrc.org for more information.
Other Meetings: The Pigtown Public Safety meeting is every third Wed. of the month and is located at 904 Washington Blvd. and is a good opportunity to get the ear of local police officials and get information on how to deter/prevent crime in the neighborhood. Contact Lou for more information at: lou.takacs@bmoreworks.org. The third Thursday of each month there is a Community Relations Meeting at the Southern District Police Station in Cherry Hill. This is another good opportunity to meet and talk to officers. For more information contact Jack at: jackbaker@sdpcrc.org.
Pigtown Festival: 6th Annual Pigtown Festival September 8th. Located from 11am -4pm 700-900 blocks of Washington Blvd. The festival features the "running of the pigs". For more information visit:
www.pigtownfestival.com/ This is an extremely fun event and all are encouraged to attend!
Speed Bumps: It has been brought to the community association's attention that near George Washington Elementary and on the 900-800 block of Carrol, cars are traveling very fast and causing a hazard for residents/pedestrians. In an effort to conduct a comprehensive traffic study with the Department of Transportation. So far, the principle of George Washington Elementary and several residents are supportive of the study. In order for this to be a success, we need more support. Please contact citizensofpigtown@gmail.com to support a petition to have a traffic survey done and tell us if there are any other areas that need to be focused on. For more information about the DOT "Traffic Calming Policies and Guidelines" check out:
www.baltimorecity.gov/news/press/0707/TrafficCalmingReport.pdf Self Defense Classes: After speaking with the Guardian Angels, we are excited to offer a self defense course for our community if we can get 10 participants. If you are interested please email Jen directly at jenpetrin@hotmail.com and she will compile the names and give them to "Pita" from the Guardian Angels. It will be fun and informative. Jen will then inform everyone interested of the time and date.

Greening Committee: COP has a greening committee and we want you to be a part of it. One of our primary objectives is to expand the tree canopy in the neighborhood. Please call Don at 410-982-5519 or email citizensofpigtown@gmail.com to get involved. We are going to be doing a detailed survey of trees that we need. Also, for newly planted trees that need consistent water, Gator Bags (that control the distribution of water) are available by contacting Don. Attached is an Baltimore Sun article on trees in Baltimore and work that Parks and People have done.

maps.baltimorecity.gov/imap/ New Dry Cleaner in Pigtown: "Ladies & Gents" was recently featured in a City Paper article about the Hollins Market neighborhood, and they use a modern, eco-friendly plant uptown near Howard & 25th. Rumor has it they're very good. Now they've opened a Pigtown location and they are ready for our business. Say hi to Willette, Jerry & Frank and welcome them to the neighborhood!
