whew! what a hectic few weeks. We have finally started to get settled down and thought it would be time to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood. I am Jeff Zimmerman and my roommates Stacey and Dave just moved into to 126 Scott and are so glad to be a part of a great neighborhood. I am currently a student at the University of Baltimore studying Information Technology and work in Bethesda as a Network administrator. Stacey is a new graduate of University of Baltimore with a Masters in Publication Design. Dave is a new graduate of UMBC with a degree in Computer Science. Feel free to stop up anytime, we are always up for a good cup of coffee or great glass of wine.

Hi Jeff.
You said the magic word (wine). Borrowing (ok...ahem..stealing) from the folks in Union Square community association, I had this idea of trying to start up a monthly wine night for people around the neighborhood. It would be a great way to meet nice people, talk about what's going on in the neighborhood, check out each other's fabulous houses etc. We could rotate houses or something and everyone could bring a bottle of wine (leaving the leftovers for the host), I haven't quite figured out the logistics, but I'm certainly willing to hostess one or two to start things off. If anyone thinks this sounds like a fun idea, let me know and I'll see if we can start something up.

Yes, that sounds like an excellent idea. We attended the wine in the woods in columbia which was a great time. We came away with many new favorites from many local wineries. So lets plan something...should be a great time.

I'd love to do a rotating thing. When the coffehouse is open, I was thinking of having a BYOB wine event one evening a month. That won't be until maybe the fall, though.

I'd be in for the wine night.
126... which one is that? how far from the corner? *racking my brain - Jack's house is 110, right, and the "newspaper house" is vacant... I think...* I'm guessing the doublewide that is in really nice shape, with that one huge room on the third floor. (second?) My husband met at least one of you a couple of weeks ago and got to see some of the house. He said you have a really nice place there.
But what I mean to say is - WELCOME!! Neil and I are at 109 - across the street on the left side of the alley back to the parking lot.

We appreciate the welcome! Yes, we are the one with the large room on the 3rd(2nd) floor. Once it gets settled more and all, we'll be grilling out and anyone is welcome. Already loving the neighborhood....all about the rotating events and such

speaking of owners (but a little off topic), does anyone know what the house next to ours is selling for - 113 Scott? The one that was owned by the lawyer whose name I forget? We talked to potential buyers yesterday and they wanted to know how much it was on the market for, and we didn't know. I haven't seen it online yet.
Nevermind, found it on longandfoster.com - $315k.

Hey 100 Block of Scott Street. I am not sure if any of you are aware that there is the beginnings of a homeless camp behind your homes along MLK. At first it was one person, now there are two. My friend and I have called 311 numerous times to have something done. I recall hearing in the past there has been difficulty removing people at the corner of MLK and Pratt who loiter/hang out there. These people are camped out there and it looks really bad; not to mention the trash they disgard everwhere. Beyond a public eyesore, I think it could also be a safety issue as they can keep tabs on who is home or not. Anyone have any suggestions/ideas on how to get these people removed? I hate to think it could get worse and turn into a campground like the one at Baltimore and President Street.

Thanks for the tip, Rob. Now that school's out we can stop focusing on curbing the illegal student parking and move on to this, I suppose. I didn't notice it happening yet.
P.S. I love summer and being able to find a parking spot on our block.

Apparently they tried to set up a homeless camp behind my coffeehouse and were promptly ran away by one of the contractor's employees. I've about had it up to *here* with the nonsense on Scott Street (no offence to the wonderful folks who live on that street, obviously) -- what is it about Scott Street?? It's always been an "iffy" street -- the whole time I've lived here. I am glad, however, to see new people move in. Maybe that will help.
And if anyone has any suggestions as to what to do about the drug dealing family at the corner of Scott and Washington Boulevard, I'd love to hear it. Because short of calling social services on them, I'm out of ideas. :-(

eh, I don't know if it's just Scott street - seems like most of the backyard thefts I've heard about have been on adjacent streets (Lombard, McHenry, Barre). But I could be wrong.
That being said, someone actually stole four new plants off of our back porch yesterday. They didn't steal the chairs, or flowerpots, or workhorses, but they stole the sweet basil and three snapdragons that we got at the Farmer's market on Saturday. They were still in their little black plastic containers, waiting to be planted today.
Why? Can you really sell those on the street?
Sometimes I can't stand people.

If it makes you feel any better... when we lived in patterson park, we had 2 mini-palm trees in planters in our back patio....for about 3 weeks. Somebody actually jumped our fence, dug out the trees, lifted them back over the fence and took off with them. Oh yeah, and it was about 10am on a saturday. When someone steals your trees, all you really can do is laugh at that point.
